đź’ˇKey Phrases and Explanations

je voudrais …

"I would like …" A polite way to ask for something, commonly used in shops, restaurants, and at the ticket counter. For example: *je voudrais un café* (I’d like a coffee).

aller simple / aller-retour

"one-way / round trip" Essential travel vocabulary. *Aller simple* = just going, *aller-retour* = going and returning.

première classe / deuxième classe

"first class / second class" A standard distinction in trains. You can also use *classe* in school contexts, but here it means ticket category.

à quelle heure est … ?

"what time is … ?" Very useful for schedules. Just replace the subject: *à quelle heure est le bus ?*, *à quelle heure est le film ?*

voilà …

"here is …" A simple way to hand something to someone: *voilà votre passeport*, *voilà la note*. Much more natural than literally translating “here is.”
